When was the last time you had an expert examine the condition of your home's electrical system from behind its walls? Many homeowners don't even consider having wiring inspected until something breaks down. But the most dangerous issues in your home's wiring are those that you can't see. At Mr. Electric, our professional electrician team offer comprehensive electrical inspections and reliable electrical services that dig below the surface to identify hidden electrical hazards. Read on to learn more about the process of detecting these hidden electrical hazards.

The Limitations of Visual Assessment

For most people, if everything is fine and the lights are on, then there is no cause for alarm. Unfortunately, this is not always the case. There are miles of wiring, many connections, and several components installed in places such as attics, walls, crawl spaces, and ceilings – places that are not visible during an inspection. Issues such as worn-out wiring, loose connections, poor grounding, and small wires could be causing a hazard within your home. Professional electrical inspections are meant to investigate places that can't be accessed visually using specific tools.

The guys were super nice, I loved that they did the work immediately. Also after having a discussion with them about the static electricity from a lightenimg strike we had and it fried everything they suggested a surge protector to keep that from happening again. So we did that.

Scheduled an appointment with Mr Electric of Fort Worth and received a call  they were able to show up early and had Dylan show up on time stocked with a full truck. He was able to diagnosis the issue quickly and restore my power to a few plugs that were causing the breakers to trip continuously. Dylan was very knowledgable, clearly explained the cause and how he would fix the issue, and addressed all concerns that we had. He was replaced two breakers and installed 2 new outlets along with diagnosing the problem in about an hour. Very quick and so far seems to have resolved our electrical issue. Would definitely recommend Mr Electric of Fort Worth!

Dylan was so nice and always on time. Very qualified and explained everything he needed to do in a way I understood. My older house required an outside panel so I had a lot of work but Dylan and his helper worked together very well and finished on time so I was not out of power more than needed. Everything looked and worked great when done. I don't know how he was able to replace the cracked power pole and wiring on my roof so quickly and beautifully. I am very, very impressed with his skill level and would request him for any future work. The company is very well organized and office contact was a pleasure to work with(which is rare since these positions are usually underpaid)so reward her well, she is the "door" to your organization. She and Dylan sealed my deal!

How Inspectors Diagnose Hidden Electrical Problems

Thermal Imaging and Heat Detection

Thermal imaging is one of the most useful tools used by professional electrician today. The infrared camera used in thermal imaging can help reveal hot spots in your wiring, panels, and connections that indicate there are some problems in the system. For instance, a connection that appears fine when inspected visually might be generating a lot of heat according to the infrared image. This indicates the potential to cause a fire. The tool helps our electrical service team to identify these hidden risks to eliminate any hazards.

Panel and Breaker Evaluation

Electrical panels play a central role in power distribution within a home. During an electrical service, the panel receives close attention from our technicians. They check the panel for signs of overheating, corrosion, double-tapping, and inappropriate breaker size. They also check if your electrical panel features any recalled or outdated models that could be a hazard to you. Individual breakers are checked to determine if they are capable of tripping under overload situations. Any modified, overused, or old electrical panels are recommended for upgrade.

Wiring Condition and Code Compliance

Several types of wiring are no longer considered safe under modern electrical codes, such as aluminum branch circuits, knob-and-tube wiring, and ungrounded two-prong wiring. These old wires can be found in homes built many years ago. During an electrical inspection, we are able to identify outdated wiring and determine the condition that the wiring is currently in by looking out for issues like damaged insulation, loose connections, circuit overload, and substandard connections. Code compliance is more than just a regulatory requirement; it represents a wealth of knowledge accumulated over decades to protect people and property. The electrical service team provides practical solutions to update your system.

Arc Fault and Ground Fault Protection

Modern electrical codes mandate that arc fault circuit interrupters (AFCI) and ground fault circuit interrupters (GFCI) be installed in important areas in your house. However, many houses built before these regulations were enacted lack these vital safety measures. Inspectors locate the circuits and places in which these are not present and install them for you.

No need to wait for any warning signs that may indicate a problem inside your walls. Never let a fire or other electrical hazards catch you off guard. Get in touch with Mr. Electric now and book your electrical inspection services with our team of experienced electricians.
