With this in mind, consulting a trusted electrician can help you consider vital factors that may impact generator kick-in time.
The guys were super nice, I loved that they did the work immediately. Also after having a discussion with them about the static electricity from a lightenimg strike we had and it fried everything they suggested a surge protector to keep that from happening again. So we did that.
Scheduled an appointment with Mr Electric of Fort Worth and received a call they were able to show up early and had Dylan show up on time stocked with a full truck. He was able to diagnosis the issue quickly and restore my power to a few plugs that were causing the breakers to trip continuously. Dylan was very knowledgable, clearly explained the cause and how he would fix the issue, and addressed all concerns that we had. He was replaced two breakers and installed 2 new outlets along with diagnosing the problem in about an hour. Very quick and so far seems to have resolved our electrical issue. Would definitely recommend Mr Electric of Fort Worth!
Dylan was so nice and always on time. Very qualified and explained everything he needed to do in a way I understood. My older house required an outside panel so I had a lot of work but Dylan and his helper worked together very well and finished on time so I was not out of power more than needed. Everything looked and worked great when done. I don't know how he was able to replace the cracked power pole and wiring on my roof so quickly and beautifully. I am very, very impressed with his skill level and would request him for any future work. The company is very well organized and office contact was a pleasure to work with(which is rare since these positions are usually underpaid)so reward her well, she is the "door" to your organization. She and Dylan sealed my deal!
Cody was professional, knowledgeable, and was able to provide me with a quick diagnosis pertaining to a wiring issue in one of my rooms. He gave me the price for the repair/modification and fixed the issue all in less than an hour. Thanks Cody!
If your backup power system uses natural gas and petrol, it can power your building for a long time as long as there’s fuel. The downside is that they emit a lot of exhaust fumes into the environment, causing air pollution and contributing to greenhouse gases. Additionally, these generators make a lot of noise during operation, causing discomfort in your home or business.
On the other hand, modern electric generators are eco-friendlier, as they do not produce harmful fumes. Furthermore, they can recharge using renewable solar energy or a wall outlet, enhancing long-term efficiency. Unlike the latter, electrical service professionals recommend electric generators to property owners who value reliability and a lower carbon footprint.
When the grid is knocked out for whatever reason, whole house or standby generators kick in to restore power. These systems are designed to detect disruption or interference in current, automatically activating the alternator to convert mechanical energy into electric power. The electrician will inspect your outdoor spaces and identify ideal placement spots for smooth integration with your home’s system.
We provide reliable, professional electrical services backed by licensed electricians and upfront pricing. Our team is committed to safety, quality workmanship, and on-time service for every job. With trusted local expertise and customer-first care, we deliver solutions you can count on.
Standby generators start automatically or manually. While the automatic models are more convenient, manual generators are not hard to use and only require pushing the “on” button. If you opt for an automatic system, it takes up to 30 seconds or less to warm up and rest.
However, petrol-powered generators may take several minutes to warm up. The duration is longer than for automatic systems, as they require oil to lubricate the engine’s components. Depending on the current environmental conditions, such as freezing weather, it may take backup power systems longer for the oil to warm up and reach every moving part. If the oil doesn’t reach a suitable viscosity or fails to turn on even after multiple tries, call a professional electrician to inspect, diagnose, and fix the root cause.
In reality, a system that runs continuously is likely to break down when you need it most. Although whole house systems are designed to run for many days, it is essential to let your unit cool down for 30 minutes to an hour every day. The last thing you want is a failing system during blackouts, leaving your home unprotected.
Different generators can run for varying durations depending on the fuel type. A generator that uses diesel usually has a storage tank that can keep it running for 1-3 days. Conversely, generators that run on natural gas often tap into public utilities, which you do not have to refill. Whichever backup power source you choose, it is important to let it cool down.
