Technological advancements in the motor vehicle industry not only focus on performance but also aim to enhance sustainability. With the world shifting toward greener solutions, more people are choosing electric vehicles (EVs)to help reduce their carbon footprint without compromising overall convenience. While a public charging station can keep your EV running, you can wait for hours in line waiting for your turn. That’s where Mr. Electric comes in as your trusted partner for comprehensive EV charging station installation. Our licensed electricians in Fort Worth, TX understand the intricacies of hardwired and plug-in EV systems, helping you make informed decisions.

What Does a Hardwired Charger Involve?

As the name suggests, a hardwired EV charging station relies on a well-designed wiring plan to ensure a seamless integration with the existing layout. A professional electrical service provider can run a dedicated circuit from your home’s electrical panel to the charger and connect the unit without a conventional outlet. A properly installed EV charger becomes a fixed part of your garage’s electrical setup. Additionally, this arrangement can provide a clean and streamlined appearance, especially when the charger is near the parking position. You don’t need a large receptacle or plug connection hanging on the wall, which can make your EV charging station installation look more intentional.

The guys were super nice, I loved that they did the work immediately. Also after having a discussion with them about the static electricity from a lightenimg strike we had and it fried everything they suggested a surge protector to keep that from happening again. So we did that.

Scheduled an appointment with Mr Electric of Fort Worth and received a call  they were able to show up early and had Dylan show up on time stocked with a full truck. He was able to diagnosis the issue quickly and restore my power to a few plugs that were causing the breakers to trip continuously. Dylan was very knowledgable, clearly explained the cause and how he would fix the issue, and addressed all concerns that we had. He was replaced two breakers and installed 2 new outlets along with diagnosing the problem in about an hour. Very quick and so far seems to have resolved our electrical issue. Would definitely recommend Mr Electric of Fort Worth!

Dylan was so nice and always on time. Very qualified and explained everything he needed to do in a way I understood. My older house required an outside panel so I had a lot of work but Dylan and his helper worked together very well and finished on time so I was not out of power more than needed. Everything looked and worked great when done. I don't know how he was able to replace the cracked power pole and wiring on my roof so quickly and beautifully. I am very, very impressed with his skill level and would request him for any future work. The company is very well organized and office contact was a pleasure to work with(which is rare since these positions are usually underpaid)so reward her well, she is the "door" to your organization. She and Dylan sealed my deal!

Cody was professional, knowledgeable, and was able to provide me with a quick diagnosis pertaining to a wiring issue in one of my rooms. He gave me the price for the repair/modification and fixed the issue all in less than an hour. Thanks Cody!

Hardwired vs. Plug-In EV Chargers: Which Setup Fits Your Garage Best?

Why Choose a Plug-In Charger?

A plug-in charger connects to a dedicated electrical outlet, much like other household equipment. However, EV charging typically requires a properly rated circuit or receptacle. The charging unit can be plugged in when needed, making this system more flexible. If you plan to move out, remodel the installation site, or want to take the charger with you, disconnecting a plug-in system is generally simpler than a hardwired unit. Electrical service providers can recommend plug-in EV chargers for households that value adaptability.

Installation and Electrical Requirements

The reality is that installation shouldn’t be treated as a simple do-it-yourself electrical project. EV charges are designed to draw a substantial amount of electricity for several hours, so the circuit must be properly sized for the equipment and your home’s electrical capacity. A hardwired EV charging station installation may require a licensed technician to handle the heavy lifting, including circuit upgrade. The same conditions apply to a plug-in charger, as it needs the right outlet and circuit to perform reliably. By hiring an electrician, you can rest assured knowing that the electrical panel, available capacity, wiring distance, and charger specifications can all affect the installation.

Charging Speed Can Influence the Decision

Another critical factor to consider before installing an EV charger is its charging speed. While high-powered systems are usually hardwired, plug-in models can also provide plenty of charging power for many drivers. However, the charging rate for both systems is different. According to electrical service providers, the charger’s output, the vehicle’s onboard charging capability, circuit capacity, and electrical configuration play a crucial role in decision-making. If you want to keep your EV on the road every day, it’s important to work closely with a professional electrician.
